The best of the summer box office 2006 rolls into the round of 32 with most of the top seeds surviving the first-round voting.
Straight away, I will be honest: I do not have any true "favorite films" from that summer. Do I really, really like any of these pieces of cinema? Yes. Little Miss Sunshine, The Devil Wears Prada, The Break-Up, and An Inconvenient Truth are all films I think highly of. Yes, Snakes on a Plane is good fun and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby truly is a quotable gem that friends and I still quote to this day.
Other films, such as John Tucker Must Die, Accepted, Click, and The Benchwarmers once served as nice background noise with decent cinematic moments mixed in. And others yet were disappointments upon their release, like X-Men 3: The Last Stand and Clerks II, that I don't believe I have seen them more than once. (Okay. Maybe twice.)
All these films and more are still alive in this tournament. One no. 2 seed (You, Me and Dupree) tumbled but all the top seeds remain intact. Will the favorites hold strong to advance? Will the top grossing film of that summer (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest) be the favorite here 20 years later?
